THE FIGHT CLUB photographs by Coree Coppinger

WHEN: Sunday, September 20, 2009 until Friday, October 30
WHERE: Steenbock Gallery, 1922 University Avenue, Madison WI.
OPENING RECEPTION: Sunday, September 20th 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Milwaukee photo artist Coree Coppinger presents a pictorial journal of participants at a Milwaukee club for recreational, amateur and professional fighters. This is a journey into their training, disappointments and victories. It is about winning and losing in all areas of life.
Coree writes: I like faces and really want to try to define a moment of history which brings about that moment of expression. I like candid shots, staged shots just don't excite me. I like to grab people in action. Sometimes the pictures even surprise me.

Well, hello there!

The Steenbock Gallery, sponsored and managed by The Center for Photography at Madison in partnership with Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters, is dedicated to exhibition, exploration, and appreciation of the photographic arts. The Steenbock Gallery provides opportunities for photographers and curators, and serves as a forum for dialogue between artists, educators, students, and the public at large.

This is our blog...

About Us:The Center for Photography at Madison’s partnership with Wisconsin Academy was initiated in 2008. The Center for Photography at Madison (CPM) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization founded in 1998, and offering a broad range of educational programs, exhibitions, facilities, and publications. Administration of the Steenbock Gallery makes CPM relevant and accessible to a wider audience, including University of Wisconsin faculty and students. These mutually beneficial liaisons provide exhibition, curatorial, and administrative opportunities, and help make the Steenbock Madison’s first gallery devoted to the history, contemporary trends, and future expansion of photographic media and theory. Located in the Wisconsin Academy building, the Steenbock Gallery is easily accessible to universities, organizations, and the greater Madison area community.
